Our 1st Sweetheart, Maryon Sullivan

The first known Red Shirt sweetheart was Maryon Sullivan, a freshman chosen in Fall 1952. Maryon pledged E.E.E. in March 1953, one of only three girls chosen by the E's that spring. Later that semester, she led a girls intramural basketball team to the semifinals. She was a sophomore miss (beauty) in 1953-54 and Homecoming Queen in 1954-55, representing EEE. She later married Rev. Harrell Wood, a former Ouachita football player. She graduated from Ouachita in 1956 with a bachelor of science degree in home economics.
